Geumsan, the cradle of life, the land of the future

Local Specialty Products

Geumsan Ginseng

Ginseng is heavily affected by its growing environment, geographical conditions and gathering periods. Geumsan is ideal in this regard, with its wide range of daily temperatures and weather conditions providing an optimal environment for farming ginseng. Geumsan ginseng is smaller than ginseng grown in other regions, but harder and pure white. Geumsan ginseng, with its 1,500-year history, is gathered in early July when it is most potent in terms of medicinal properties and processed until the end of October, thus earning the nickname 'Summer Ginseng'. The content of saponin in Geumsan ginseng (Summer ginseng), the key ingredient of ginseng, is a significant 5.2% higher than ginseng produced in other regions.

Chubu Sesame Leaves

Chubu sesame leaves are grown in the clean zone near Seodaesan Mountain (904m), the highest peak in Chungcheongnam-do Province. The technology Support Group run by Geumsan-gun Agricultural Technology Center regularly conducts technology training programs for safe production of agricultural products, and selects quality inspection experts to conduct regular examinations to ensure fresh sesame leaves are delivered to consumers. The Chubu Sesame Leaf complex currently consists of 12 crop groups, where members form groups to visit the wholesale market in Garak-dong, Seoul to communicate with consumers, and conduct other activities to ensure safe production of agricultural products. The Chubu Sesame Leaf Festival was hosted to promote consumption of sesame leaves, Chubu sesame leaves received the 『Q』 Mark for 『quality certification』on the recommendation of the Governor of Chungcheongnam-do Province, and continuous efforts for technology developments are in progress to develop products based on customer demand.

Aralia continentalis

Jinsan aralia, harvested from the end of January until late April every year, is one of the local specialty products that are produced at the Park Gyeong-ha Farm in Duji-ri, Jinsan-myeon.

Barisil Apple

Barisil apples are grown in 37 orchards, based on the quality certification for environmental farming practices-utilizing joint compost sites and organic food farming methods.

Sinjeong Pear

Sinjeong pears, harvested between September and October every year, have boosted farmers’ income ever since the ‘Proper Pricing Movement through quality certifications’ initiative was conducted by the Sinjeong-ri Crop Group in Namil-myeon, Geumsan-gun.

Chubu Grape

For Chubu grapes, a pilot project for the application of new farming technologies (through project budget in response to WTO) was conducted for the first time in the country. Campbell Early grapes are grown on a 0.33ha land and aged for 6 years. The harvested grapes are shipped out between July and October every year.

Ginseng Strawberry

Geumsan ginseng strawberries are grown in an area with fresh, clean air providing the perfect environment for floral differentiation. The farms are located close to the market for easy transport.

Ginseng Watermelon

The ginseng watermelon produced in Eojae-ri, Buri-myeon is known as a sweet, chemical-free food.

Ginseng Egg

Ginseng eggs are laid by hens that are fed animal feed containing medicinal herbs, ginseng powder and biocides, etc. They are free from any unpleasant odor, and the yolk is a dark yellow, with a rich vitamin C content and a savory flavor.

Hanwoo (Korean beef)

Hanwoo is a highly nutritious food that contains high-quality proteins and iron, recommended for those suffering from anemia. It also mitigates edema caused by malnutrition and contains many essential amino acids to strengthen the leg and back muscles.

Oyster Mushroom

Oyster mushroom is a natural food that helps prevent obesity, constipation, hypertension, arteriosclerosis and diabetes by lowering cholesterol levels.
