Geumsan, the cradle of life, the land of the future
Seodaesan Mountain (904m) with its imposing stature offers a beautiful mountain scape-picturesque scenes created by rocky peaks and densely green forests. Seodaesan Mountain is situated in the northernmost section of Geumsan-eup, covering Chubu-myeon and Gunbuk-myeon of Geumsan-gun.
Address : Seodaesan, Chubu-myeon, Geumsan-gun
Seodaesan is the tallest mountain in Chungcheongnam-do Province and is one of the 100 most famous mountains in Korea. Despite its massive size, it is not connected with any other surrounding mountains and it stands tall like an island on land. For this reason, it is also colloquially called Biraesan Mountain.
The appeal of Seodaesan Mountain is its rugged cliffs in fantastical shapes that protrude through the dense forests from all directions-a marvelous sight for visitors to enjoy. The well-developed rocky ridges, peaks, cliffs and rocks are captivating sights, as are the views from them.
There are a number of cliffs along the ridges, including Sinseon-bawi Rock, Bukduchilseong-bawi, Janggun-bawi, Tangeumdae, Seok-mun and many other nameless cliffs, while Yong-bawi, Madang-bawi, Chotdae-bawi and other nameless rocks in fantastical shapes can be found throughout the mountain. One of the main hiking courses start from the Seodaesan Dream Resort parking lot and pass through the Ilbulsa Memorial Park and Heungguksa Temple. Other major starting points include Seongdang-ri of Chubu-myeon and Cheonsu-dong Valley in Sanggok-ri of Gunbuk-myeon.
